Hibernicor, LLC manufactures a heart preservation device that allows for the prolonged preservation of the donor heart in the context of cardiac transplantation. Hibernicor’s founder, Dr. Andrew Rivard, conceived of the concept for a portable heart preservation device as a medical student. With sponsorship of both the American Heart Association and the Minnesota Medical Foundation, the first prototype device was developed at the University of Minnesota in 1998.

In 2004, The University released all claims to the device, allowing Dr. Rivard to transfer the new technology to the market. A strategic step in the company development was updating the design with Minnetronix, Inc. Hibernicor launched the prototype heart preservation device as one of eight companies selected to participate in the New Technology Showcase at the Medical Alley Annual Conference & Expo, October 5 & 6, 2005 (now known as LifeScience Alley).

In 2006, Hibernicor acquired the licensing rights from the University of Minnesota to exclusively develop Praesto, a pre-clinical electronic record system. This system was implimented in the Experimental Surgical Services at the University in 2008.
